Confirming Mexico’s continued commitment to promoting sustainable growth as well as protection of its ecosystems and biodiversity for future generations, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto has established the Pacific Islands Biosphere Reserve off the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula.
While concluding the United Nations Biodiversity Conference in Cancun, the newly created 2.7 million acre reserve was decreed and will protect not only twenty islands and ninety-seven islets, but also a large portion of the surrounding waters that serve as habitat for for marine mammals and seabirds, as well as commercially important fish and shellfish.
As one of the most desired places to visit and retire abroad, Mexico values its natural abundance the unique ecotourism excursions and vibrant cultural experiences it offers to a global audience. We are very pleased of this news as Mexico continues to protect and care for the areas so dear to us.
